 Overview 

I have been tasked with investigating a range of different security issues at Sky Link financial systems Ltd. By using documents, A B and c throughout this report I have analysed the company's current network set up, user reported uses and VPN management system to identify root causes, potential vulnerabilities, and provide justified recommendations for improvement. 

User A – Financial analyst  

Symptoms  

Currently the symptoms user A the financial analyst is facing are they are unable to access certain financial databases also frequent connection timed out messages retrieving reports. Finally, user A us using a desktop computer with windows 7 and office 2010.   

Root cause analysis  

Server preformance: Currently the file and print server is running on windows server 2008 and that is quite old the outdated operating system is struggling to work with modern workloads because of this it is lacking optimisation for newer clients. 

Outdated operating systems: Windows 7 is so old it is not even supported by Microsoft anymore which means it lacks current security patches and performance updates that puts the whole organisation at risk from cyberattacks because of them having poor security they will be seen as a easy target by cybercriminals. This increases the risks of vulnerability to malware and compatibility issues with newer servers. 

DNS or DHCP conflicts:  

 

Security and performance risks  

Unsupported systems such as the ones above i have stated that are used by this organisation are vulnerbale to expliotation due to them not being able to mitigate modern cyber threats. 

Due to inefficient DNS and DHCP management this could cause intermittent
